Bohemian Tories, or “what has been saved”
It is true that traditionalist conservatism is in most respects a lament for what has been lost. But properly understood, it is also a cheerful celebration of what has been saved.
I love this quote.
Too aften it seems to that to call oneself ‘conservative’ means in the minds of most listeners, that you are describing yourself as either a libertine (guns, drugs and each man for himself small government) or a depressive (it’s all toss and getting worse, the saved ‘elect’ are vanishingly few and must suffer long, the new Roman Empire, etc, etc.).
The quote is from Crunchy Con Rod Dreher, who is, as usual, on the right side of this divide. He’s in the middle, where most of the good answers are to be found.
The quote is taken from a presentation he did on Russell Kirk, who was’t so shabby either.
