Rod Dreher has left the Cathoic Church. I regret this but I think these things are very much private affairs and that they play out over a lifetime, so there is no need to jump up and down and squawk. Tomorrow will bring another day. The regret is that while one can admittedly stay in the boat and get very wet, a proper Catholic sacramental understanding is about the best umbrella around.
While Rod’s posts on the matter didn’t impress me, it is easy indeed to be sympathetic to the emotion involved. Mark Shea has a considered response up, and I’ll defer to that. In the meantime, I will continue to bookmark Rod’s blog and hope for the best.
It was while reading Mark’s response that I found another of Mark’s essays that I thought was very insightful. His topic is faith and Darwinism, but I assure you that this is a much more deft take on the matter than one commonly finds; the balance is excellent.
