Problem solved

I spent a fair amount of time yesterday looking for a solution for why my computer has been acting so oddly roughly since Windows SP2 was added to the mix. Looking for problems under “Sp2 issues,” or “windows shell crashes” turned up nothing. The magic phrase was “right click.” That’s it. That was the most difficult part of the fix. That still lead to multiple solutions, everything from “your log in is corrupted, create a new one” to “old versions of the DivX codec are incompatible with Windows SP2.” Well, using the rule of thumb that you start with the simplest and cheapest solution first, I removed DivX.

Now everything works, without even rebooting. This isn’t the first time my wife has gotten me out of a jam. See, I was the one who found the suggestion about creating a new login, which would have been more taxing. It was Rebecca who found the DivX solution.

Anyway, I’m posting this information on the off chance it might help someone else solve this very annoying and mysterious “right click crash” issue.
