Tips for Bloggers

I have been spending my morning trying to fix a weird problem that has been affecting my computer for some time. I thought I had it fixed a while ago but it seems to have come back. It’s more of a nuisance than anything else, but the simple result is that I can’t use the windows shell to move or delete files or shortcuts. I can use other programs to do it. Using windows makes the system hang and/or do a mini reboot. I still have not found a new fix, since the old one (ie. find and replace all copies of the gdiplus.dll with newer versions) isn’t having any affect. I’m begining to wonder if my diagnosis might be off. Suggestions? Running Linux or a Mac are not options at this time.

While trying to hunt this information down, I found things that might be of use to those of us who read and write blogs. If you didn’t know it already, Microsoft has a new control panel tweak that makes it easier to turn on Windows’ ClearType technology and to tweak it to your liking. It’s a small download available here called ClearType Tuner.

I also found that the version of Windows Powertoys that I was using was quite old and could cause problems with newer software. That caught me by surprise. Wouldn’t hurt to check the date of your version, if you are using it at all.

My wife showed me W3CSchools, where you can get a lot of information about tweaking your site. It’s well laid out and quite clear.
